Cow Hide Cake + Jean Cake = A Western Party!!!
I am a western girl at heart! I think I was born in the wrong part of the country because once I heard country music in college, I found a little piece of myself! – and my husband!! It was there on the dance floor at a western dance in college that I literally fell head over heels for a man who was dancing with my room mate (don’t worry…they were just friends). He was SO handsome and SUCH a good dancer! And he danced all the way deep down in my heart. OH I love that man more today then I did then!! – and we still do some dancing every once in a while and the butterflies still wiggle in my stomach!
I had a chance to create a western themed cake for my last Craftsy class because one of the lessons was called “Western Textures”! It was one of my favorites because I got to make leather, tooled leather, burlap/lace and jean! Then, in there was also a lesson called “Animal Textures” where I got to create zebra, giraffe, jaguar and the gorgeous painted cow hide you see here!! It’s SUCH an easy technique so it was extremely fun for me to show you all how to do it in the class!! AND, it takes HALF the time than cutting out brown spots and sticking them on your cake!! So, truly, from now on, if I ever to another cow hide cake, I’m painting it!! Plus it’s so much fun!
Ohhh, and then there was jean textures and lace! It’s easier than you think. I love how realistic it turns out. You get the beautiful diagonal stitching lines and the ripples on the jean border/seams. Don’t fear…you can do it! I walk you through the entire process step by step!
The wafer flower is from my second class, Simply Modern Cake Design, but I do have a FREE tutorial HERE for a smaller version of the wafer paper flower that is similar. The lace is made with edible paper! – my perferred way of creating it because there’s no molds, mixtures, baking, etc!! You’ll learn how I do that too! The class is jammed packed! It’s called, “The Clean & Simple Collection: Playful Techniques” and if you click HERE you’ll get 50% off that class!
Now I have some fun inspiration for you! There are SO many beautiful cakes out there with a western feel so I wanted to share a few of my favorites with you!!
