I am a wife, a mom, a daughter, a sister, an aunt, a friend, but most importantly a child of God. I am far from perfect, but perfectly forgiven and thankful for God’s grace and love in my life. Nothing I do is possible without Him. I hope I can use the gifts and talents He has given me to be the best wife I can be and to love my husband more, to teach my kids how to be strong and courageous and to know the love of God, to encourage others around me, to be a light of His love and grace in a very dark world. That is my hope, and my prayer.
I “fell” into cake decorating and feel like this journey has been so organic and so guided by the hand of God in many ways. When my oldest was four, I decided to make her cake after watching some of the cake shows on TV. I loved it! It was this amazing combination of my past education in construction/engineering and interior design. Plus, my hobby before cake decorating was photography, so, I was then able to use that “skill” to be able to capture the cakes I was able to make in a beautiful way. I still haven’t turned this into a business because I’m realizing that now with three babies, my heart needs to be in my home. My kids are only little for such a short season and I find that when I stay engaged in my home, stay plugged into my kiddos, my heart is full, my joy is more complete and my home thrives. So, cakes are my hobby and will be for a long time…as long as I have little feet running down the hallway, my heart will be touching, hugging and loving on my precious kiddos while I have them!
Because I have been self-taught, I have had many many failures! I started this blog with the hopes to share what I was learning with others in the world…positive and negative…in hopes of saving someone else some of the “lessons learned” that I’ve been through. I always wish I can do more because the ideas I have are endless and my desire to build and create using patterns, art and inspiration around me is constant. But, I know there are times and seasons for everything. For now, I get to teach what I know through the amazing platform at Craftsy. I have five online classes that anyone can purchase from anywhere in the world, watch over and over and keep for life. That way I get to be able to share with all of you in a much grander way, while still being a mom and still getting to be at home. It’s been a great fit! I have thoroughly enjoyed using what I’ve learned to bless others and create classes to help you take your skills to the next level.
I’m so excited for the future. I have been so grateful for all of you out there…your encouragement, your love, your excitement when I post something new. I am blown away at the support I have felt and look forward to being able to create more classes, more cakes and more tutorials as time allows. Thank you for your patience as I try and stay balanced and keep my heart at home.
With love,
Jessica
And, in memory of my sweet mom, here is a re-telling of her life…one that has significantly impacted mine!
